Over here at Casa Lewis I have a bedroom conundrum.
Currently I have my bed against a wall...which looks great
However, with tiny closets and an ever growing collection of crap
I NEED MORE STORAGE.
I have a large window in my room which if I put the bed up against would make me have like 10x more space...
I as a designer know, that beds in front of windows are totally acceptable
But the duck....he's not so sure.
Lets take a look at some amazing bedrooms where beds in front of windows totes works

Go for it! As your photos show, it's perfectly fine and fab to do so. If I could roll over each morning and look out the window and see the ocean like we see here, it would make my day. 10x more real estate is a lot! Gotta convince that duck lady.
ReplyDeleteI just moved my bed in front of the window and it makes a my room feel a lot bigger. totally go for it.
ReplyDeletei think it works well- we just did it in our bedroom, because i wanted the bed centered on the wall. our window was sort of small though, so we extended the curtain rod to make it appear grander. here is the link if you want to see...

I don't mind it at all, I think I actually prefer the ones that don't look like they're trying to disguise the window being there.
ReplyDeletePhew! That is a lot of beds in front of windows! I love the look. I'm a bed-in-front-of-window person myself. I think it's perfect and I love being able to pop up and look outside.
ReplyDeletegorgeous post!! I love all of the natural light!!
ReplyDeleteThe first photo is actually my bedroom and putting my bed in front the window gave me a ton more space in my room as well. An added bonus is waking up and being able to open the drapes/raise my shades and have sun shine right on me...love it.
ReplyDeleteI came here from Apieceoftoast.com because of your name and the fact that I like interior design. I really like what I see, good work!

We went through a similar thing. My husband was in favor of in front of the window. I was opposed. We moved it and it has been great. (Nick Olsen is also a fan of beds in front of windows, btw.)
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite topic. How many rooms do you walk into that are all wonk bc people refuse to put the bed in the best position- under the window. Do it!
ReplyDeleteI love the feel!! Those boys are a tough sell sometimes. You'll make it perfect and he'll love it!
DeleteI love the added texture of the curtains behind the headboard. i just did that in my sons/guest room and I love it more everyday!!
ReplyDeleteAhhh perfect just on my mind today at a client's house. Yes you can really do it right. Posting this to my Facebook followers!! xx
ReplyDeleteI have to do this too in my daughter's room- just no other option. I say go for it on your side- quite sure any room you create will be perfect:)
ReplyDeleteI seem to remember that duck is English, right?? Ya see, in England we just don't put beds in front of windows. That's why. It's the Royal rule... hee hee. Just kidding.... but it isn't done often in the UK.... however, all the images here are stunning... I think you have a good stock of examples to change his mind ;o)
ReplyDeleteQuestion: I have been wanting to try my bed in front of the window for awhile now. I think it would really open up the room. My window is small and not in the center of the wall, I notice that in all the pics above the window seems to be centered on the wall. Do you think it matters? Can it still be done? Would love some opinions
ReplyDeleteIt definitely works. Waking up and having sunlight on your face is a great feeling!
ReplyDeleteSpiders on your head ol g
ReplyDeleteYou would think that your "Duck" would trust your opinion by now. I personally love a bed in front of a window, especially if you notice it as you walk into the room. Good luck convincing him, I would love to see a photo once its done.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of this vacation home?

All bedrooms pictures is so nice and its good work.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures of the bedrooms are so beautiful and nice. It's perfectly fine and fab I really like the interior.
ReplyDeleteI currently have my bed in front of a window HOWEVER it is off-center and driving me crazy. That wall has two windows separated by about a foot of wall, but I have drapes covering the whole expanse so when they're closed (which is most of the time) it looks like one big window. I'm thinking I need to try moving the bed over so it is centered on this big wall of drapery, I'm just worried that it is going to cramp up the side of the room where my closet is. It might be worth it though because every time I think about that off-centered bed I want to punch things. I can't believe I'm sharing this but here is the horribleness: http://christinaebbers.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/thoughts01.jpg?w=460&h=345
ReplyDeleteI, really, am not a fan of windows in bedrooms for the reason that I am scared that some paranormal creature will just pop out of nowhere. Lol. But these bedroom designs, in some way, changed my viewpoint. If my bedroom has windows and an amazing environment and view like those above, then I would most definitely feel comfortable, relaxed and, of course, safe :D

It's just the way it's supposed to be. It classes things up plus the design isn't too shabby either. Just a wonderful placement for bedrooms.
ReplyDeleteWindow treatments in our bedroom play a significant role in setting the mood of sleeping and waking up. I can only imagine the incredible feeling of getting up every morning; being greeted by the sunlight. =)
ReplyDeleteEven if a bed in front of a window isn’t a conventional position in bedroom etiquette, I can see it’s going to be fantastic. It offers an alternative, which is energy-efficient. We all love natural light! And it would be nice to read books without the need to turn on a lamp. Plus, it won’t make you feel crowded in a four-sided space at all. I think wall-to-ceiling type of windows would go best with the idea. ;)
ReplyDeleteNice interior designs of bedroom, i loved to have my bed beside or front of the bedroom window. Window gives the room a very special look and at morning when light came in through them gives a much pleasant view. Thanks for sharing such a nice post. Wish you very best of luck.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Nathan.

I don’t see the point of disguising the windows either, a bed against the window works well I think. The light coming through in the morning would warm up the room in gold tones and be a nice way to wake up. If the window is to the side of the wall and not central, then add a simple blind for effect.

The second image is AMAZING! The natural light makes the room glow, and the slightly darker walls work really well. Also, the horns above the bed give it bit of shabby chic flavor in the interior room design. I think this bedroom would be the most exciting room of the entire home. Great job with the inspiring images. Miami homes tend to have an abundance of natural light from the strong South Florida sun, so this article really helps stimulate our imagination.
